Program-Level ePortfolio

All students in Kinesiology create a program level ePortfolio -- they begin in a first-year seminar course and end in a capstone/internship course.

Key experiences are added at various times

throughout the curriculum based on the 3 majors:

  1. Exercise Science

  2. Fitness Management and Personal Training

  3. Physical Education Teacher Education

The program-level reflective ePortfolio allows students to reflect on the process of their personal and professional development in an ongoing basis throughout the entire curriculum.

Students dive deeper into their learning experiences and identify the various processes of becoming a professional through participation in course assignments and projects. Students then use the ePortfolio to tell the story of their learning as it emerges.

The ePortfolio assignments include guided- and/or self-reflection for each entry. This project allows students to highlight and explain their journey of becoming a young professional through personal growth and self-reflection. The use of a reflective ePortfolio helps students develop skills and instill the importance of becoming a reflective practitioner.

The primary learning outcome for the program-level ePortfolio is to teach students the importance of self-reflection and instill the skills needed to become a reflective practitioner.

Journey Mapping to introduce ePortfolios

Reflective journey mapping is used as a precursor to the ePortfolio in a first-year seminar course. The journey map serves as an innovative tool to practice reflection by creating a visual of a student's journey to college. The ePortfolio is then introduced as a living journey map that will illustrate the student's collegiate journey as it emerges.

FYS > Capstone/Internship

Students begin their ePortfolio in the first-year seminar course during their freshman year, and continue building their ePortfolio with various assignments and reflections in several courses throughout the entire curriculum. In the senior year, students complete a meta-reflection on their entire undergraduate curriculum and experiences.

ePortfolios in Academic Advising

Academic advisors formalized a sophomore level touch point that prioritizes time in an advising session to prompt students on their past and future engagement with the ePortfolio.

Senior Showcase

As seniors, a kinesiology student may participate in an online Engaged Learning Showcase, which highlights their engaged learning from curricular to co-curricular activities via ePortfolios.
